01. Which Hogwarts house do you see yourself in and why?
I most definitely see my self as a Hufflepuff. Part of my reasoning is that just about every time I have taken a quiz or been sorted in a community I have ended up Hufflepuff. Besides that, I think it is more of a "I don't belong in every other house because..." thing than an "I am so Hufflepuff" thing. I don't think I am distinguished enough, or fully portray the traits of the other houses to a noticable extent. I can also relate to some of the Hufflepuff traits, in loyalty and doing what is right because it is right. Those two things are high up on my list of moral priorities.

02. Make a paragraph-long highlight summary of both the Order’s and the Death Eaters’ characteristics and doctrine. Each paragraph should be no longer than ten lines.
The Order is the "side of good." They fight for what they believe is right, or better for the world. They hope to protect the world from a dark change and to prevent death. They fight because it is the right thing to do, not because someone else is telling them to. They are willing to give up their lives to protect the other people in the world. They respect magic and the world and understand that freedom is a human neccesity. It isn't a stated fact, but I like to think that they hope to succeed with the smallest amount of casualties, including the opposing side, and are more apt to persuade their enemy to give them information than to torture them for it.

The Death Eaters see themselves as better than the others. They don't care who they hurt in the quest to take over the magical world, and the rest of the world as well. They live off their pride, and seem unable to realize that they are doing the dirty work for someone else to get all the glory. Some fight out of fear, some out of pure hate. They value their lives over others and don't seem to care who dies in the battle, so long as it isn't them or their family. They have no issue using an unforgivable curse, and seem to take pleasure out of the pain they cause others.

03. Identify yourself with one (ex)-Order Member and one Death Eater, and explain your choices.
I'm tempted to say Moody for the Order, because he is so overly cautious and crazy about his duties, but I don't think I'm quite as extreme as he is. Perhaps Mrs. Longbottom, because she refused to give up information while being tortured, and never once forgot her cause. Although I don't know much about her besides this, I feel like I can relate to her. In a less extreme example, have you ever had a friend prod and poke at you begging you to tell them some information they somehow found out you knew? Sometimes they get angry and threaten blackmail or to end your friendship. A few times I've had this happen to me, and I was more willing to give up that friendship than to divulge the secrets I knew. Make sense?
As for the Death Eater...maybe Malfoy? I think he is kind of only part of the DE because of fear, and that is pretty much the only reason I could see myself being sucked into something like that. I mean, his inability to get Dumbledore at the end of the sixth book shows that he isn't whole-heartedly a part of the death eaters. He is doing it because it is expected and that he is afraid of what will happen if he doesn't. Yeah, I'm like that.

04. What are three qualities of an ideal leader, and why? Please describe a person (literary, historical, etc.) who exemplifies these characteristics. Do not use any examples from the Harry Potter books.
1. Desire to better the world for your people. It may not be the whole world, but if you are going to lead a group of people, you should focus on making the changes they need to better life for their followers. The focus should remain on the followers and not on the self.
2. Peaceful nature. I think a lot more would come out of a leader if he or she tried to be peaceful and understanding. This would keep the followers more safe than a brutal and violent leader. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, right? And I'm not saying they should be completely incapable of standing up for themselves and if there is no other hope to surrender instead of fight. They should be able to do that, but to try the nicer methods first.
3. Hardworking. I mean, seriously, who wants to be lead by someone who wants to sit on his or her ass and wait for someone else to do the work? You shouldn't lead if you are incapable of doing the work neccessary to keep things running.
And my example of a person like this? The first person that comes to mind is Gandhi. He was all of those traits and more, and made an impact in the fight that he was fighting.

05. If placed on a mission, would you rather operate alone, with a friend, with a small group of friends or with a large force, and why?
Honestly, it would depend on the situation. If I was supposed to capture someone, for example, I would want to be in a group with at least one other person. If I was supposed to go find something, such as a horcrux, I would want company, but it wouldn't be a neccesity. If I was to pretend to be working for the opposite side, I would want to go it alone, therefore not having anyone to forget not to know or to be seen with outside of that side's interactions. I think I lean a bit more towards the alone thing, not because I don't like being with other people, but because if I messed up, nobody else would be sucked in or punished for my mistake. I would hate to know that I was the cause of someone else's death or injury.

06. How did you find this community? If you were referred by someone else, please state their LJ name (and, if possible, their camp).

  • 5 comments'd do really well in the Order. If you dislike brutality and violence in a leader, then clearly Voldemort would hold no appeal for you. Now if you'd mentioned that you prefer a charismatic leader, we could, perhaps, have worked something out.

The amount of thought you put into your mission seems to me to be an Order quality, as well. DEs do as they're told, take with them the people they're told to take, and are happy with it.

Yes, I think you'll be a great addition to the Order of the Phoenix.
I agree with daintress here--what you value is directly in line with your descriptions of the Order, and I think that's an important part of what you believe in, as regards to their mission.

I would like to add, however, that in a very interesting way, you did hint at the fact that being coerced into the DE camp would be possible by fear--and I definitely feel that in your statements. *wink*

In the end, however, it was your last sentences to #5 that settled it--you'd want to go alone, not necessarily because you want to boast that you'd do better solo, but because you don't want to make anyone else pay for your screwups.
I bet if your application were scented, it'd smell like cinnamon and sugar. Sugar and spice and everything nice... would make me sort you into the Order of the Phoenix... it also makes great seasoning for a Death Eater's meal! Muahahaha!!!
Hmm. I honestly think you'd fit in equally well with both groups - I'd certianly say that Voldemort believes he is bettering the world by wiping it clean of the muggle and muggleborn filth. And if you think that wizened old Dumbledore has a peaceful nature, well, he's just as peaceful as Voldemort when supporting his own cause :).

However, I do think you'd enjoy your time with The Order of the Phoenix better than with us vile Death Eaters, and I hope to face you on the playing field!
Because of your fortitude and exceptional abilities you are being christened as a member of the ORDER OF THE PHOENIX!
